Saturn (Shani) is the most feared planet because, in its ancient representation, is seen as an old man and farmer. He moves slow and only makes decisions only for the longterm. In a modern understanding, which isn’t much different, he is the planet related to time, patience, hard work, and wisdom.
Wherever Saturn is in the natal chart, he is pouring wisdom into the individual about working hard, being patient, compassionate, and innovative. Capricorn is his earthy feminine side guiding the individual to be grounded, persistent, hard working, and patient. The innovation, uniqueness, and focus on society comes from the airy masculine side that is Aquarius.
Saturn Is Happy At Home
Shani moved into sidereal Capricorn 23 January 2020 and will remain there until 28 April 2022. He rules structures, like government and land; the poor and elderly are represented by Shani. Capricorn rules teeth, knees, the skeletal system, and hair. Shani and Capricorn show up in our lives in different ways.
Saturn goes retrograde on the following dates:
- 10 May – 28 September 2020
- 23 May – 10 October 2021
Shani moves slower, guiding the collective to reflect deeply on where it needs to work harder or dismantle old structures.
Additionally, Saturn rules the root chakra. The relationship with the physical body, personal safety, home, food, money, and family are controlled by Shani. Healing is needed if the root is damaged. Hoarding food during the current global pandemic is a sign of the root chakra needing attention.

Sound scary? All of this is to show the collective where to direct their attention at this time because it has been severely neglected. Saturn wants us to pull up the weeds and do prescribed burns to return the soil to its precious richness.
Inward Journey
On a personal level, Saturn acts like a farmer. He pulls weeds from the area of life in the natal chart, as well as where he transits. Saturn finds old habits, behaviors, and outdated ideas troublesome. His wisdom comes from years of trial and error and understanding the patterns of life so that the right seeds, in the right place, at the right time are planted.
Saturn takes the time to nurture these seeds with the understanding that, they too, will bear seeds that can be used in the future. He may guide us to relocate, change careers, take up a hobby or different lifestyle, or leave unhealthy relationships.
